Wanda Burr

Wanda Lee Burr, 87, of Hepzibah, passed away at 5:09pm, Friday, April 11, 2014 in the Fairmont General Hospital. She was born in Elkins, March 2, 1927, a daughter of the late Reverend Harry and Bertha Lower Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eugene “Gene” Burr. Surviving are one daughter, Jeannie Moore, Lumberport, her grandchildren, Jenny Sampson and Terry, Patty Sampson and Brian, Regina Moore and her fiancé Kyle, her great-grandchildren, Justin, Tiffany, Precious, MaLissa, and Preston, her great-great-grandchildren, Cadence, Colt, and Camden, two brothers, Rev. Benny Simmons and his wife Carolyn, Dick Minor and his wife Sue, four sisters, Eva Russell, Beryl Dennis and her husband Dan, and Avis and Patricia Simmons, brother-in-law, Grover Russell and her step-mother, Kathleen Simmons. She was also preceded in death by one son Ralph Douglas “Doug” Burr, one granddaughter, Ronda Sampson, six sisters, Cleo, Merline, Francine, Etta Jo, Beverly and Betty, four brothers, Ronnie, Donnie, Dorman, and Eugene. Wanda was the owner and operator of Wanda & Gene’s for 63 years, she formerly aspired to be a missionary. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Clarksburg, the American Legion Ladies Auxillary, Clarksburg, and the Fairmont Eagles. Wanda was a mother to all and a legend lost before her time. At her request, Mrs. Burr was cremated. The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 1-9pm, Wednesday.
