William Stoneback Obituary

William Lane Stoneback, 80, of Upper Hanover Township, passed away on Friday evening, April 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 21, 1933, he was the only child of William Jennings and Edith Mae (Lane) Stoneback. He was raised in Colmar and Upper Gwynedd and graduated from Lansdale High School. He was an Eagle Scout who lived his whole life according to the motto “Be Prepared”. He attended Temple University prior to enlisting for military service. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in Morocco for two of those years before his honorable discharge. Bill was a photographer for the Daily Local News in West Chester for 28 years before retiring in 1992. He won much recognition and numerous awards for his photographic work during his career. For two years, he served as President of the Pennsylvania Press Photographer’s Association and was a past active member of the Harleysville Lions Club. In addition to photography, he enjoyed gardening, riding and caring for horses, hunting and camping at his land in Tioga County, learning about Native American customs, and traveling throughout the American West and Alaska. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years, Mary (Sellers) Stoneback; sons: W. Keith (Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Douglas W. (Megan Oschwald) of Perkiomenville; daughters: Laurie L. of Red Hill, and Megan L. (Keith) Aldinger, of Pennsburg. He was also the beloved grandfather of Matthew K. Stoneback (Jessica) of Chicago, Derek P. Stoneback, of Red Hill, and Morgan L. Aldinger and Cory A. Aldinger, both of Pennsburg. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Heidi Lynne Stoneback. “Wild Bill” will be sorely missed by his family. Services: A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, April 17, at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 2781 Barndt Rd, Harleysville, PA 19438. Family and friends are invited to gather from 9 a.m. until the service begins. Interment will be held privately. Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pennsburg is in charge of arrangements.
