James Howenstine

James D. Howenstine, 70, of Decatur, IN passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born on June 28, 1943 in Huntington, IN to the late Douglas W. and Jeanette (Scheiber) Howenstine. On August 28, 1965 he married Judith E. Casper. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Jim and his wife Judy owned and operated the True Value Stores in Decatur and Wabash. He also served on the Board of Directors of True Value. Jim served on the board of the Adams County Community Foundation, was a member of the Decatur Optimist Club, and was active in Junior Achievement. He was also a member America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Judy E. Howenstine of Decatur; a daughter Janna (Matt) Enyeart of Leo; 2 sons Brian (Amy) Howenstine of Wabash and Bradley Howenstine of Decatur; a sister Cheryl (Bob) Rand of New Hampshire; a brother Mike Howenstine of Hawaii; 2 sisters Deb (Jim) Schaefer of Illinois and Lee Ann Howenstine of Indiana; 4 grandchildren Connor and Allison Enyeart and Elizabeth and Emily Howenstine. He was also preceded in death by a brother Kim Howenstine. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Voors presiding. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington. Memorials may be made to the A.C.C.F. Jim & Judy Howenstine Fund or to St. Joseph Catholic School.
