Buddy Smith

Buddy Gene Smith, Sr., age 78, 333 Rich Hollow Road, Erwin, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late James Clinton and Pansy Etta Webb Smith. Mr. Smith was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired from American Water Heater Company after twenty-five years of service. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Lynn Smith and James "Jim Dog" Smith; two brothers, James Clinton Smith, Jr. and Samuel Smith; and three sisters, Maggie Arebella Hyder, Mae Bell Biddy and Dorothy Sue Smith. Survivors include, his special partner of twenty-one years, Eloise "Weezie" Humphreys. Three sons, Ronnie Lee Smith & wife, Teresa of Unicoi, Bobby Gene Smith of Johnson City and Buddy Gene Smith, Jr., and partner, Laura Bailey of Unicoi. Two daughters, Donna Gaede and husband, Jason of Wilton, NY and Kathy Gates of Moncks Corner, SC. One brother, Billy Ray Smith and wife, Gail of Unicoi and one sister, Lois Ann McCurry and husband, Don of Michigan. Eight grandchildren, Scott Smith, Travis Smith, Nikki Smith, Becky Smith, Misty Honeycutt, Dustin Gates, Austin Smith and Haley Smith and seventeen great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and his loving companion, Prissy, his little dog. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 P. M. Monday, April 7, 2014 from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Rusty Wishon will officiate. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be grandsons Scott Smith, Dustin Gates, Austin Smith and great-grandson Dalton Honeycutt and Stacy Brinkley and Michael Paul Jones. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. Monday at the funeral home. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the Fishery Union Church Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered at graveside by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933.
