Louis Van Iersel Obituary

Louis Van Iersel, 87 of Williams, Oregon passed away on April 1, 2014 at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 5th at 11 a.m. at Sparlin Cemetery in Williams, Oregon. For online condolences and tributes please visit stephensfc.com. Arrangements by Stephens Family Chapel, Grants Pass, Oregon. Louie was born on April 9, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to Louis and Hendrika Van Iersel. He joined the Navy when he was 17 and was a corpsman attached to a Marine unit in the battles for Saipan and Tinian in WWII. He served at the same time as his 2 brothers and his father. On November 23, 1946 he married Dorene Spence and they moved to Davis, California where he earned a 2 year degree in Poultry Husbandry at the University of California. In 1963 they moved to Williams and started Leghorn Acres where the family raised 8,000 chickens for eggs which he sold to restaurants, nursing homes and door-to-door. Louie enjoyed fishing, visiting with people and selling real estate. He is survived by his wife, Dorene and 4 children. Sons, Stephen of Williams, OR and Wesley of Brookings, OR; daughters, Annette Harmon and Denise Scheel of Grants Pass, OR; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
