Gladys Virginia Carper Carper, 99, of Winchester, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Carper was born October 13, 1914 in Clarke County, VA; the daughter of the late Grover E. and Rosa Carpenter Carper. She was a L.P.N. before retiring in 1985 at the age of 70 from the Winchester Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Chapel. She married the late Strother E. Carper on June 28, 1933 in Hagerstown, She is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Carper of Winchester; her sister, Shirley C. Henry and husband Dave of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandsons, Dennis Ruckman of Frederick County, VA, Thomas Ruckman and wife Mindi of Frederick County, VA and Robert Ruckman and wife Barbara of Warren County, VA; four great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren, a caring and supportive son-in-law, Charles Ruckman of Frederick County, VA and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Ann Ruckman; her sisters, Louise C. Robinson and husband Albert, Winifred C. Pingley and husband Albert, Gretna C. Williams, and Betty C. Dunn and husband Linwood. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester with Pastor Alan L. Morrison officiating.
