Betty Shelton

Betty Shelton, age 82, 105 Little Rock Road, Flag Pond, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the Center on Aging and Health, Erwin. Mrs. Shelton was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Jake and Mattie King Shelton. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Shelton loved going to church, reading and doing puzzles. She was a member of Sweetwater Church of God. Other than her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Hilden Shelton, two sons, Vernon Hilden Shelton of Elizabethton and Ray Lewis Shelton and wife, Ruby of Erwin. Three daughters, Fredia Joyce Tipton and husband, Doug of Flag Pond, Eva Jean Scott and husband, Kim of Carolina Beach, NC and Hilda Grace Hayes and husband, David of Flag Pond. Eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grand grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Numerous nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral service for Mrs. Shelton will be held at 11:00 A. M. Sunday, March 30, 2014, from the Sweetwater Church of God. Reverend Craig Shelton and Reverend Winfred Shelton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pete Creek Cemetery, Devil's Fork Community, Flag Pond. Pallbearers will be Steven Tipton, grandson, Billy Tipton, great grandson and members of the Sweetwater Church of God. Music will be provided by the church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M Saturday, March 29, 2014, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel.
