James Barnes Obituary

It is with sadness the family of James Donald “Jim” Barnes, 81, of Blue Rocks, announces his passing on Wednesday March 5, 2014, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Sherbrooke, he was a son of the late Alan and Mary (Scott) Barnes. Jim worked most of his working career at National Sea, retiring after 38 years service. An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and for many years, was an active member of the LaHave River Salmon Fishing Association. Nothing gave him more pleasure, however, than spending time at Molega Lake with his family. Over the years he attended Northwest United Baptist Church and enjoyed many Blue Grass festivals and a good game of Horse shoes. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Lohnes; daughter, Wendy (Michael) McKinnon, Wileville; son, Brian, Mahone Bay; sister, Doreen Spencer, Bridgewater; brother, Russell (Pauline), Kentville; grandchildren, Adam (Jill), Port Medway and Sarah of Newfoundland and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, Peter James and brothers, Robert and Scott. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. Memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the Northwest United Baptist Church, Northwest, Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. Flowers from the immediate family only, memorial donations may be made to the Northwest United Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
