Frances Whittinghill Obituary

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth McCown Whittinghill, 80, of Conway, AR, formerly of Senatobia, MS, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at home in Conway with her family by her side. Mrs. Whittinghill, a homemaker, was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in Senatobia and was retired from Conwood Corp. As a young girl, Frances broke ground by becoming the first girl to play little league baseball in Memphis, beating her brother out at short stop. She was a graduate of Central High School in Memphis where she lived the majority of her life. To know Frances was to love her as she never met a stranger. No one could resist her witty charm and Southern drawl. She was a selfless person with a kind heart and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Born on October 3, 1933 in Memphis, TN to The Late Dr. Oswald Stuart McCown, II and Ruth Harwood McCown, she is survived by two daughters, Louise Zarback (Gary) of Senatobia, MS and Frances Davis (James) of Conway, AR; two sons, Edwin Whittinghill of Millington, TN and James "Wilson" Whittinghill (Lempi) of Memphis, TN; one sister, Ruth Drewry (Bill) of Arlington, TN; two brothers, James "Jimmy" McCown of Memphis, TN and Richard Drewry McCown of Olive Branch, MS; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kristen, Ashley, Michael, Kelsey, Emily, Whitney, Selena, Austin, Abigail, Brayden, Addison, Jace and Olivia; and her sisters-in-law, Judy McCown, Aggie McCown and Gail McCown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Oswald Stuart McCown, II and Ruth Harwood McCown Fly; and three brothers, Oswald Stuart McCown, III, Dr. J. Dillard McCown and Murray Harwood McCown; and two sisters-in-law, Judy McCown and Jeanne McCown. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30am in St. Gregory Catholic Church in Senatobia, MS with burial following in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 6-8pm in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gregory Catholic Church, 707 Strayhorn St., Senatobia, MS 38668 or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
