It is with great sadness that the family of Elburne Leo Tanner, 79, of Stonehurst, announces his passing on Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Stonehurst.
Born in Stonehurst, he was a son of the late Morris and Eva (Tanner) Tanner.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Elburne’s love of the sea started at an early age scalloping and working on fishing draggers out of the area and then for many years as an inshore fisherman operating his own boats out of Stonehurst. A quiet and humble man, we have all been blessed to have known him.
Elburne is survived by his daughters, Donna Jack, Blue Rocks; Patty (Jim) Gomm, Spectacle Lake; his former wife, Judith Tanner, First South; grandchildren, Matthew, Nathaniel, Nicole, Olivia, Anna and Morgan, sister-in-law, Aunt Phyllis, his extended neighbourhood family, The Selig Family, Ivan, Cheryl, Ben, David and Linda.
He was predeceased by sisters, Beatrice Tanner, Ada Bowser, Vera Tanner, brothers, William, Earl, Cecil, David, Gordon and Harry and a grand-daughter, Sarah.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg with visitation Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and where a service to celebrate Elburne’s life will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
