Failed to connect to MySQL: Too many connections
Charles John Beanland, 85, a long time resident of Acton, MA, died peacefully Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Payne) Beanland, to whom he was married for 60 years. He is also survived by three children, Charles W. Beanland and his wife, Louise, of Acton, Peter Beanland of Nashua, NH, and Penelope Alberti and husband Lt. Col. George Alberti, USAF, Ret. of Severn, MD; and his beloved grandchildren, Ashley and George Alberti, III.
Born in Witney, Oxfordshire, England, he was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Evans) Beanland, and was the brother of the late Christina, B. Keith, and Leslie S. Beanland. Mr. Beanland settled with his young family in the home they built in Acton in 1963, and was employed for many years at MITRE Corporation.
As a Chartered Electrical, Radio and Aeronautical Engineer, he was well known and respected in the engineering fields. He was the President of Spectrum International Inc., a company devoted to amateur radio and weather satellites. He was a member of the MITRE Corp Radio Club for many years, where he taught many students studying for their amateur radio licenses. He was also a longtime member of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the Amsat Amateur Radio League (AARL), and most recently the Westford Radio Club. He enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada with his family, and spending time the garden at his home.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, September 24th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25th at 10:00am in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 164 Newtown Road, Acton. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Road, Acton Center. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Mr. Beanland's name to the Friends of the Acton Nursing Service, PO Box 541, Acton, MA 01720. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
