HICKEY, George Sanford (1922-2012) Passed away peacefully in his sleep after a year long battle with Cancer, on Friday May 25, 2012 at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital in Kingston. George, in his 90th year will be sadly missed by his beloved wife and best friend of 60 years Nancy (nee Grant). He is also survived by his loving children Sharon McAllister (Bill) and Don Hickey (Violet). He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Laura Morrison (Nathanael), Andrew McAllister (Denise), Hayden Hickey and Kristen Hickey. George is also survived by his first great grandchild Hannah Morrison. He was predeceased by his parents Sanford and Hetty (Sampson) Hickey and one sister Frances Carmichael. George was blessed with a long and wonderful life that touched many lives. He was full of love and compassion for his family, friends and his many former students. After graduating from Queen's University, he enjoyed a tremendously successful teaching career that spanned 40 years. It began at the Aultsville Continuation School and then moved to Osnabruck District High School in Ingleside, Ontario where he remained until his retirement. George was known for his love of history and was a respected local historian. He had a special love for the Lost Villages Historical Society and Museum and was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan. Early in his retirement years 'Papa' could often be found in his workshop crafting furniture for his children and grandchildren. George had an unfailing faith that never wavered even when he became ill over the past year. Visitation will be held at the Brownlee Funeral Home MacDougall Chapel 14815 County Road 2 Ingleside on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. [A SERVICE IN CELEBRATION OF GEORGE'S LIFE WILL BE HELD AT CHRIST CHURCH IN LONG SAULT ON THURSDAY MAY 31, 2012 AT 11:00AM.]. Reverend Stephen Silverthorne officiating. Interment to follow at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery. A reception will follow at Christ Church Parish Hall.
