David W. Overbaugh Obituary

David W. Overbaugh, 67, of Chipman Corners Road, Locke, NY died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Born May 17, 1945 in Harford, NY, he was the son of the late Philip and Jennie Carpenter Overbaugh. He was born and raised in Harford,NY and was a lifetime resident of the area.

David served his country from 1962-1965 with a tour in Germany in the US ARMY. He had recently retired after 25 years from the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC) at Cornell taking great pride in working on the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. He had enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, travelling worldwide with work and his family. He had also been a member of the Groton Carrington-Fuller Post #800 American Legion.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Kelly J. Corgel Overbaugh at home, his children, David II (Ann) Overbaugh of Moravia, Nycki (Eric) Reeves of Venice Center, Jaime (Jesse) Gleason of Locke, Allen (Allison) Ward of Ithaca and Adam (Abigail) Ward of Fort. Hood, TX. as well as his grandchildren to whom he was beloved papa/grandpa, Nicholas, Branden, Kailea, AnnaMarie, Allie, Jacob, Haylie, Alana, Bella, and Mia. He is also survived by his siblings, Harold(Patsy) Overbaugh( of Fort Worth, TX Alan(Belle) Overbaugh of Harford, Ronald(Grace) Overbaugh of Cortland, Carol (Jim)Burns of Locke, Luanne(Brian) Leger and Janice(Larry) Stewart both of Harford as well as like sister Audrey (Lynn) Rider(of Harford). His mother in law Maxine Brown of Lansing and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Connie Sheldon.

A service will be held on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton. Family will receive friends 11:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Willow Glen Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Relay for Life TEAM CMA where he was expected to walk the survivor lap on June 15,2012.
