Sally Lou Helmstead passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, at her home in Veneta, Ore., of respiratory failure.
She was born April 9, 1935, in Moscow, to Arnold B. Lyon and Margaret (Martin) Deaveny. She grew up in Clarkston and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1953.
Sally married Vernon Eugene Farnell on June 13, 1954. They were married 46 years when he died July 24, 2000.
She married Robert (Bob) Helmstead Jr. on Dec. 22, 2002, in Eugene, Ore.
Sally was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a 53-year member of P.E.O. She also belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Red Hat Society.
Sally is survived by her husband, Bob, of Veneta; daughters, Ginny Eulrich of Tualatin, Ore., and Julie McMorris of Portland, Ore.; stepson, Kris Helmstead of Bend, Ore.; a brother, Arnold M. Lyon of Clarkston; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon E. Farnell; a younger brother, Larry Lyon; and her parents.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston with the Rev. Barrett J. Moffett of the Clarkston United Methodist Church officiating. Merchant Funeral Home of Clarkston is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the local Humane Society.
