Meriam Fleming

Meriam S. Harry Fleming, 90, of Concord, PA, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 30, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. Born May 14, 1921 in Dry Run, she was a daughter of the late Walker W. and Sophie Heckman Harry. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Fleming was a member of the Dry Run Church of the Brethren. She lived her life for her Lord Jesus Christ and volunteered with Child Evangelism Fellowship for forty-six years, beginning in 1958 when she hosted and taught a Good News Club at her home. She volunteered with the Path Valley release-time program and in later years served as a helper at the Path Valley Good News Camp held at St. John’s Camp near Cowan’s Gap. Mrs. Fleming’s home was a gathering place for all of the children of Concord. She was a former Sunday School teacher; a member of the Concord Ladies Aide Society; and an active member for many years of the Fannett-Metal Fire and Ambulance Company Women’s Auxiliary. Her husband, Herbert W. Fleming, whom she married September 28, 1937, preceded her in death on April 28, 2003. She is survived by five children, Billy Lee W. Fleming and wife Carol of Ft. Loudon, Martha A. McCarl and husband Paul of Greencastle, Ronald H. Fleming and wife Brenda of Orrstown, Linda S. Hockenberry and husband James of Somerset, CO, and Harry C. Fleming and wife Irene of Hot Springs, SD; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom and Corwin Robertson and Milo and Wilbur Harry; and a sister, Martha Swartz. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Dry Run Church of the Brethren. Rev. Tim Vaughn and Rev. William Kauffman will officiate. Interment will follow in Concord Union Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7:00-9:00PM Tuesday at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Inc., 45 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268 or the Dry Run Church of the Brethren, 18778 Main Street, Dry Run, PA 17220.
