Henry L. Hayes of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, March 31, 1918 at Beulah, Missouri to the union of John Franklin and Mattie (nee: Yowell) Hayes and left from this life on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Cuba Manor at the age of 93 years 10 months and 25 days. Henry was united in marriage to Audrey Cover 64 years ago and to this union Ann and David where born. Henry proudly served in the United States Army from 1942 till 1945 during WWII. Henry and Audrey owned and operated Hayes Shoe Store from 1950 till 1994 and then he continued to work there until late 2005. He was a deacon and active member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba since 1953. Henry was a charter member of the Cuba Lions Club where he had received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award (the highest award given to any member) and had perfect attendance for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and played pool at home and at the Cuba Senior Center for many years. Henry was always a true gentleman who loved his family, his yard and growing flowers. Henry was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He will be forever remembered and always treasured by all those who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mattie Hayes, three brothers Charles, Jess and Boyd Hayes, three sisters Ann and husband Jess Authur, Margaret and husband Owen Hudgens and Helen and Bob Heasley, brother-in-law Al Stiga and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Audrey Hayes of Cuba, one daughter Ann and husband Gary Branson of Cuba, one son Dr. David and wife Dr. Sharonne Hayes of Rochester, Minnesota, four amazing grandchildren Jeff and wife Christi Branson of St. Charles, Missouri, Vickie Branson Johnson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Andrew Hayes and Sarah Hayes of Rochester, Minnesota, two beautiful great grandchildren Audrey and Alexa Branson of St. Charles, Missouri, one sister Vern Stiga of Rolla, Missouri, one sister-in-law Evelyn Hayes of Rolla, Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service honoring Henry will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Cuba with Pastor Bob Knight, officiating. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Cuba Lions Club or First Baptist Church of Cuba. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Henry’s family.
