MICHAEL KEVIN NICHOLS, 43, died Friday, January 13, at Indian River Medical Center after a courageous 18 month battle with leukemia. Born on March 14, 1968 in Tom’s River, New Jersey, Michael is the son of Joseph Nichols and the late Maggie Nichols. Michael graduated from Villanova University with a BA degree in Accounting and played soccer for the Wildcats. Upon moving to Barefoot Bay, Florida, Michael accepted an assistant golf professional position at Barefoot Bay Golf Club and then went on to Sebastian Golf Club, where he was the head golf professional for 12 years. Michael mentored many young golfers in the countless golf clinics and lessons he conducted, and he also coached his son’s soccer team for the Indian River Soccer Association until his diagnosis. He touched the lives of many through his genuine caring and sensitive ways. He was a true gentleman. Michael’s love of life included golf, proper football, fishing, reading, travelling, sailing, skiing, but most of all- a love for his family. An outstanding and involved father and devoted loving husband, Michael is survived by his wife of 10 years Christine Nichols, and son Alexander. His two dogs, Casey and Seamus, were his other babies. He is also survived by his brothers, Tom (his wife Kim), Chris (his wife Kelly), his sister Mary, nieces and nephews, Kyle, Conor, Shannon, Cassidy, Tyler and Avery, and his mother-in-law Barbara Dorek. Those who knew Michael were blessed to have encountered him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach on Saturday, January 21, with a memorial service to celebrate Michael’s life starting at 1pm. The celebrant will be his uncle, Father Michael P. Sullivan O.S.A.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made the Alexander Joseph Nichols- “Mr. Peabody” College trust. Donations may be made at local Suntrust banks.
