Ronald Meehan Obituary

Ronald Bamforth Meehan died December 26, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Joyce Bradley Meehan, whom he married on January 31, 1954. Son of the late John F. Meehan and Margaret Schrey Meehan, he grew up in New Britain Ct. and attended local schools graduating in 1948 from New Britain H.S. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY, graduating in 1953 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member and president of Chi Phi fraternity. He served in the US Navy from 1953-57. Upon discharge from the service, Ronald and Joyce resided in Farmington, CT for over thirty years, raising their family there. Always community minded Ron was a Cub Scout leader for Pack 68 for five years. He was a former member and officer of the Farmington Exchange Club. In 1980 he was chairman of the Farmington HS Renovation Committee. He was a 50 year member of the 1st Church of Christ Congregational of Farmington Ct. and served on many church committees. He was chairman of the 1985 Porter Memorial Renovation Committee and of the Deacons. He retired in 1992 from Johnson and Johnson and with his wife moved to Westerly RI. There, Ronald was a member of the Westerly Yacht Club and the Watch Hill Yacht Club, where he was a member of the Race Committee for many years. He enjoyed clamming, boating, fishing and entertaining friends and family. Besides his wife he leaves three sons, Bradley (Patric), Paul (Amy) and Garth (Melanie); six grandchildren, Larkin, Julia, Clare, Cecily, Tuck, and Jack; several nieces and nephews and a cousin, Jean Bamforth. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and a cousin, Dr. Betty Jane Bamforth. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 Saturday January 7th at the Avondale Chapel 11 Avondale Rd. Westerly RI. 02891. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Research Fund, Dept. of Medical Oncology, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston MA 02215 in care of Daniel J. DeAngelo, MD, PHD. Or take someone you love to lunch and hoist one to Ron.
