SPRINGFIELD – Theresa R. (Skala) Goodwin, 83, of Springfield, died on Sunday June 19, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born in Springfield on July 6, 1927 a daughter of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Skala and was a 1945 graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield. Theresa was employed for 35 years in the Payroll Department at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Theresa was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Theresa’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the nurses and the staff of the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, Dr. Richard Steingart and Dr. John Bedford for their loving and compassionate care of Theresa during her illness. Theresa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her including her children, Robert E. Goodwin, Jr. of Springfield, Kathleen A. O’Neill and her husband James of Dublin, OH, Mary T. Chenevert and her husband Peter of Red Hook, NY, Thomas J. Goodwin of Hamden, CT, Joan E. Sherman and her husband Peter of Longmeadow, Elizabeth J. “BJ” Goodwin and Jay Pooler of West Springfield, and William H. Goodwin and his wife Susan of Springfield; her grandchildren, Sarah Leonard and her husband Ben, Robert Goodwin, III, James O’Neill and his wife Jennifer, Christopher O’Neill, Nicholas O’Neill and his fiancée Margret Virostek, Michael Chenevert and his wife Christa, William Chenevert, Andrew, Jennifer and Matthew Sherman, and Kelly and Jenna Goodwin; and her great grandchildren, Jack and Layla Chenevert, and Dylan Leonard. Theresa also leaves her brother, Henry J. Skala and his wife Rita of Longmeadow; her sister, Geraldine M. Skala of Springfield; and her many nephews and nieces and extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Skala; and her sister, Elizabeth Skala. Theresa’s family will receive friends on Wednesday June 22, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 23, 2011 beginning at 8:30 a.m. from Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen Street, with Rites of Committal and Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, all in Springfield.
