Frederick O. Brubaker Frederick O. Brubaker, Esquire, 92, born in the City of Reading, February 8, 1919, where he practiced law for 62 years, passed away peacefully at his home on June 5, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence “Flora” (Krell) Brubaker. They were married on January 31, 1944, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Born and raised in the city of Reading, he was the son of the late Oliver R. and Eva (Flickinger) Brubaker. He was a life long member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church at 8th and Court Streets, in Reading. Frederick was a 1936 graduate of Reading Senior High School and a member of the Southern Junior High School Hall of Fame. In addition, he served as PTA President for the Northeast Junior High School. He was a 25 year member and Secretary of the Reading School District Authority. Fred attended Maryville College in Tennessee, West Point Military Academy, and The University of Pennsylvania. He was a life long member of their Alumni Associations. He graduated from Susquehanna University in 1942 where he was an active member of the Varsity Tennis Team, The Susquehanna Players, Tau Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega and the Debating Society. After World War II, he graduated from The Dickinson School of Law in 1948, Carlisle, Pa. Fred was a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. In World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in Africa and in Europe. He was awarded four Battle Stars, along with other awards, for service in the American, North African, Italian, and European Campaigns. He served as the Commanding Officer of the Head Quarters Squadron of 42nd Bomb Wing, Europe. He also served as Commanding Officer of the 9202 Air Force Reserved Squadron at The Reading Airport. Frederick served as Commander of the General David Mc. M. Gregg Post American Legion. He was Chairman of the Dedication Committee of the Combined Veterans Council for the dedication of the Reading Municipal Stadium to the Veterans of World War II. He served as Legal Officer for Court Martials at General Spaatz Field Reading. Fred was also awarded a citation as a founding member of the American Air Force Museum in Britain Campaign. Fred was admitted to practice Law before The United States Supreme Court, United States District Courts, The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and all Berks County Courts. He practiced before the Berks County Courts in the City of Reading for the next 62 years. In 1956, the People of Berks County elected him as their District Attorney. Fred served proudly for 2 terms until 1964. Fred was past president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys’ Association and served on committees of the National District Attorneys’ Association. He was past president of the Endlich Law Club of Berks County and a member of the Berks County Bar Association for 62 years. Fred was a 50 year plus member of the Reading Lodge, 549 and the Rajah Shrine. Fred served as chairman of Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Berks County. He was chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Literacy Council of Reading-Berks. He served on the Board of the Wyomissing Club and The Mountain Springs Association. Fred shared his great enthusiasm for cars with everyone, especially the Reading Yellow and Metro Cab Companies and employees. He was grateful for the dedication of his long time secretary of 42 years. He loved his family, his friends, antique cars, making speeches and the law. His life served as an inspiration to others, especially his devoted family including his wife, Flora, his two daughters, Susan and husband Franklin Innes of Towanda, PA; and Barbara and husband Craig Wyke of Pittsburgh, PA; and seven loving Grandchildren Abigail L. (Wyke) and husband Kevin Kendall of Harrison City, PA; Wilhelmina S. Innes of Washington, DC; Benjamin O. Wyke of Pittsburgh, PA; Samuel R. Innes of Brooklyn, NYC, NY; Marguerite B. Innes of New Milford, PA; Kate B. Wyke of New York City, NY; John B. Wyke of Pittsburgh, PA; and his beloved Great-Granddaughters Georgia L. and Olivia R.Kendall of Harrison City, PA. Services will be held Thursday at 12 Noon in Henninger Funeral Home, Inc., 229 North 5th St., Reading. Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM with Reading Lodge #549 Masonic Service at 7 PM in the funeral home and also Thursday morning from 11 AM to the time of services. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery with Military Honors.
