Wayne Somerville Waterloo, Ontario Obituary

Wayne Somerville

It is with deep sadness that the family of Wayne Somerville announces his sudden passing, at home, as a result of a heart attack. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen, grateful children, Sandy (Beth) and Tara (John) and the grandsons he adored — Leif, Hiatt and Eian. Also missing Wayne greatly are his brother Bob (Delene), sisters Willa (Bob), Olive (Don) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Delmas and Margaret and in-laws Frank and Peg Hurst. Wayne also leaves behind a legion of dear friends whom he and Helen consider a second family. Wayne was fortunate to have enjoyed and succeeded in two careers — education and real estate. As a teacher, he cared deeply about continually improving not only the quality of children’s education but also the surroundings in which they received it. As an administrator, he was a tireless advocate for advancing the principles and processes of education, which often led to Wayne assuming a leadership role in numerous associations locally and Canada wide. As a realtor, he got tremendous satisfaction from the relationships he built with clients and colleagues. His professional life was defined by his honesty, integrity and willingness to help others. Wayne always said that “nothing is more important than family” and he lived each day demonstrating how profoundly he believed this. As a husband, he was loving and devoted, as a father and grandfather, kind and generous and as a friend, loyal and caring. We will continue with fond memories of his love for us and he can rest knowing how much he was loved in return. Friends are invited to share their memories of Wayne with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room. A private family interment will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery. Condolences for the family and donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
