I met my wife Vickie Lynn Olson in Garden Grove, California in 1990.
She was a California native, born in San Bernardino, April 3, 1961. We bumped into each other at a bar called Loose Moose a popular rock club at the time. I asked her out on a date and we went sailing on the 4th of July to watch Fireworks. We fell in love that night and moved to Washington together in 1991, and were married March 12, 2001.
Vickie and I lived in many places in Western Washington do to my work in construction. She worked as a hair stylist in the different cities that we lived in. Vickie was an established hair stylist who had worked for many years in the entertainment industry styling hair for people such as Eddie Murphy (they shared the same birthday, so they would have a drink together every year), Richie Blackmore, CC Deville and Brett Michaels.
In 1996 we bought our 36 foot Columbia Sailboat that Vickie named “Orca Song” for her love of whales. We would save our money and when work got slow we would set out sailing with our dog Ginger. Vickie loved sailing, hiking, photography, the sea, whale watching and spending time with her friends. She loved whales so much and was passionate about efforts to protect them. When she passed away, I contacted Captain Paul Watson, with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society which is dedicated to saving whales, about adopting a whale in Vickie’s name. It’s not usually done, but for Vickie they are going to grant my request by sending me a picture of one the whales saved from Japanese fishing fleet and a Certificate of adoption in her name, which will allow her to live on in the Sea that she loved so much.
Vickie is survived by her husband, David L. Barone, stepson Adam, mother Delta J. See, sister, Lisa Rene Mercer, brothers, Stevan Wayne, Stanley Freeman and Harry Creig Blankenship, her faithful dog Morgan, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
