George A. Janovick Obituary

Former South Cascade Street resident, George A. Janovick, 90, of New Castle, passed away the evening of June 23, 2016. Born on July 7, 1925 in New Castle, he was a son of the late Michael G. and Mary Ridarsky Janovick. On June 7, 1947, he married his beloved wife, the former Viola Effinite, and they spent 62 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on June 25, 2009.


George retired as a truck driver for Crane Company. He also had worked as a custodian for many years at St. Camillus Church and as a security guard at Rockwell International. A very proud member of the U.S. Army during World War II, George served his country in the 79th Infantry Division during the European Campaign. While in service, he earned a Purple Heart Medal and a European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. George enjoyed New Castle Football games, vegetable gardening, and yard work.


George is survived by his children, Roberta Janowski and husband Joseph and James Janovick, all of New Castle, four granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Janovick, and sister, Anna Domenick.


Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00am to 11:15am at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 11:15am. A procession then will leave the funeral home at 11:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm at St. Joseph the Worker Church, conducted by Father Frank Almade.


Interment will take place in St. Lucy Cemetery.
