Edith Maddocks

Edith Helen Maddocks, 93 passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at the Woodlands Center in Rockland on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Edith was born on July 25th 1922 at home in Liberty, Maine to parents Walter Ludwick and Lulu (Ryan) Ludwick. Edith graduated from Walker High School in Liberty, Me in 1940, Married Lawrence Edward Maddocks Sr. on her 18th birthday and started a family. Edith also attended and graduated from the Florence Nightingale school of Nursing. Lawrence and Edith owned and operated a chicken business in Burketville until the early 1960’s which to this day is the family homestead. Edith worked for Moody’s Nursing Home in Union as a C.N.A. as well as Seven Tree Manor. Edith was a Branch Leader for Stanley Home Products and sold them until she retired in her early 80’s. Edith always thought of others as she did in taking in boarders at her home, both children and the elderly. Edith’s pastimes were Quilting, Word Search Puzzles, as well as having the family over for Sunday dinners where she was known to “sneak” her grandchildren chocolates. Edith also attended the South Liberty Baptist Church. Edith was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law Elwood Light, her sisters Gladys Ripley, Gertrude Ripley, Eva Belding and brother Clarence Ludwick. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters- Joann Light of South Liberty, Me, Lorice (Douglas) Ripley of Thomaston, ME, Elaine (Tommy)Smith of Belmont, ME, Sandra (Richard) Tolman of Kinzers, PA, Dale (Dave) Taylor of Burkettville, ME . Her son Lawrence (Cheryl) Maddocks, Jr. of Burkettville, ME. Edith was proud to have had 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Edith will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday , June 25th, at Hall’s of Waldoboro , 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, ME . Edith will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery , Union, Maine immediately after the service and a reception will be held for Edith at the Burkettville Grange Hall.
