Alfred Vance

Mr. Alfred Vance, age 82, of the Webb Branch section of Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 22, 2016) at his home. Born May 8, 1934 in Monk, Virginia, he was a son of the late Henry Clay and Sarah Ellen Stiltner Vance. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Honaker Church of Christ, having been baptized on January 10, 2016. He was a proud United States veteran, having served in the Air Force. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner at several area mines for over forty years and was a member of the UMWA. More recently he had worked at Mac Construction and as a security guard for Secure Toss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Fullen Vance and Thurman Vance, and a twin infant brother, Otis Vance. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Vance of the home; one daughter, Sara Vance of Wheeling, West Virginia; one sister, Ruby Bond of Rowe; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Bro. Randy Taylor and Bro. Jerry Goss officiating. Interment will follow in the Meadows- Vance Cemetery at Page, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by Childs Gentry VFW Post # 7360 of Grundy, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday. Online condolences may be made at www.honakerfuneralhome.net.
