Arville Deel

Mr. Arville E. Deel, age 87, of Council, Virginia, passed away Sunday (June 19, 2016) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born July 19, 1928 in Murphy, Virginia, he was a son of the late Silas K. and Ethel Lee Murdock Deel. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, he was a man of many talents, having been employed as a handyman, coal miner, logger, carpenter, stone mason, and bus driver. A founding member of Davenport Rescue Squad, he had served as captain for many years. He was a member of Russell Fork Church and was treasurer for twenty-seven years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Catherine Boyd Deel, three children, Joyce Ann Tiller, William Silas Deel, and Kenny Vernon Deel, two brothers, James Cecil Deel and Claude Swanson Deel, four sisters, Lovie Irene Boyd, Mettie Jane Sullivan, Lydia Deel, and Arbutus Deel, and two grandchildren. Survivors include eight children, Linda Compton of Cumming, Georgia, Jerry Deel of Bluefield, Virginia, Shirley Bailey of Lebanon, Virginia, Sharon Tiller and husband, Mike of Mimms, Florida, Donald Deel and Grayson Deel both of Davenport, Virginia, Douglas Deel and wife, Barbara of Haysi, Virginia, and Arville “June” Deel, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Bristol, Virginia; four sisters, Virginia Edith Sykes and husband, Bernard, Gay Nell O’Quinn and husband, Bob, Goldie Marie Gilbert, and Martha Evelyn Presley; one brother, Glenn Carter Deel and wife, Glenda; special friend, Joyce Owens; thirty-five grandchildren, sixty-seven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital and Billy Mullins, Jr. for the compassion that they showed not only to Arville, but to the entire family. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Denver Barton, Rev. David Owens, and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Deel Cemetery at Murphy, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to Russell Fork Church, P.O. Box 694, Honaker, Virginia 24260. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Vernal Boyd and the men of Russell Fork Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Cody Jackson, Rev. Clarence Yates, and Rev.
