Mrs. Gwen D. Childress, age 60, of Richlands, Virginia passed away Friday (June 17, 2016) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born January 30, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Ira Jay and Helen Arbutus Compton Meade. She had spent most of her life in the area and was a formerly employed as a caretaker at Cumberland Mountain Community Service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shelia Thomas and one brother, Ira Jay Meade, Jr. Survivors include her husband of forty-three years, Cecil Childress of the home; three children, Ginger Denise Plaster of the home, Christy Dawn Perkins and husband, Wayne of Swords Creek and Bradley Allen Childress and wife Amanda Maria of Tazewell; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Plaster, Caleb Perkins, Payton Childress, Brianna Perkins, Isaac Perkins, Helena Childress and Isabella Childress and one expected grandchild; one brother, Darrell Meade and wife, Rhonda of Claypool Hill; two sisters, Bobbie Richardson and husband, Randall of Raven and Lisa Worley and husband, Scott of Floyd, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Caleb Perkins, Isaac Perkins, Scottie Thomas, Josh Richardson, Jason Richardson, Jacob Richardson, Casey Worley, Mark Meade and Chad Meade. The family will receive friends after 6 PM at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Mike Dye officiating.
