II Timothy 4:7- “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”…the victory was won for Mrs. Kathy “Nana” Lynn Farmer, age 62, of Swords Creek, Virginia, who passed away Tuesday (June 7, 2016) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born September 7, 1953 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Edgar and Mary Magdalene Boyd Miller. She was a lifelong resident of Russell County, Virginia and a 1971 graduate of Honaker, Virginia. She loved spending time with her family, coloring, making crafts and going to Topsail Island Beach and looking for shark’s teeth. She was a devoted Christian and faithful member of her church, Word of Victory Fellowship at Elk Garden, Virginia. She was a former Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Church Teacher, Director of Nursing Home Ministries, Editor of “FIRE” Magazine, Church Decorator, Christian Tract and Computerized Printers, Bone Marrow Donor, Director of Go YE program at Word of Victory and she also participated in the WOV Secret Sister program. She was a loving wife, “mommie”, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her family treasured her and thought of her as the virtuous woman described in Proverbs chapter 31. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her”. Proverbs 31:28. Kathy’s life words were, “I hope I have shown love to everyone I came in contact with…shown compassion to the hurting…shown Jesus in my everyday life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Jason Miller; brother-in-law, Donnie Deskins; niece, Andrea Ryan and beloved and constant companion, Princess. Survivors include her husband of thirty-two years, the “love of her life”, Roy Farmer of the home; two precious and loving daughters, Jennifer Russell and husband, Stephen, and Kristy Price all of Swords Creek; step-son, Timothy Farmer of Richlands; two grandchildren, Nana’s “pride and joy”, Cody Price and Emily Price both of Swords Creek; two sisters, Nadine Ryan and husband, Mike, and Carolyn Deskins all of Honaker; Goddaughter, Gracie Reynolds; special friend, Debbie Owens; dog, Sassy; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kyi, Third Floor nursing staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital, the 5300 Unit staff at Johnson City Medical Center, and Richlands Home Nursing Company. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rod Wicker, Rev. Sharon Wicker and Rev. Jerry Welch officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Cody Price, J.W. Harman, Kenneth Shortt, Stephen Russell, Mike Hale, Lynn Hess, Keith Horn, Jonathan Deskins, Dean Griffith, and Kermit Musick. Honorary pallbearers will be Carolyn Saunders, Ann Vencil, Rosie Bowers, Marie Hess, Sue Stevens, and Regina White. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
