William John Sahlmann, age 74, of Milford passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016 in CT Hospice. He was born on September 25, 1941 in Freeport, Long Island, New York to the late William and Katharine Mahlstedt Sahlmann. A loving husband, amazing father and dedicated grandfather, he was employed as a mechanical engineer for several firms before retiring. An active member of the community, he received the Connecticut Commission of Conservation “Person of the Year” award and served on the Inland Wetlands Commission of Milford for several years. Along with his devotion to nature, he will be remembered for commitment to his grandchildren. William was especially proud of his granddaughter’s love for music and dancing, and his grandson’s love of math and Tae Kwon Do. William is survived by his wife Margot Schwiegerling Sahlmann, daughter Elise Carlson MD and husband Andrew Carlson MD, grandchildren Lindsey Carlson and Benjamin Carlson all of Milford, sister Mildred England and her husband Robert of Colorado along with several nephews and nieces. Calling hours are Monday, June 13, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St., Milford. A prayer service will be held during the visitation at 7pm with Pastor Chris Files.
