Mr. Beecher Lee Harris, Sr., age 91, of the Flatrock section of Honaker, Virginia passed away Saturday (May 28, 2016) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born July 28, 1924 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of the late Everett Lee and Mary Elizabeth Deel Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, he was formerly employed by the United States Postal Service and had an automobile shop at his home. He had proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty-three years, having flown in the Berlin Airlift during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Odessa Wells Harris; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include four children, Larry Wayne Harris and Beecher Lee Harris, Jr. both of Honaker, Virginia; Mary Alice Harris of Richlands, Virginia and Deborah Harris of Big A Mountain, Virginia; two step-children, Darlene Faye Carstens of Pahrump, Nevada and Sylvia Ann Siedl and husband, Fred of New Haven, Connecticut; one brother, James Harris and wife, Yvonne of Springfield, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday with Bro. David Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Wednesday.
