Midge Ervin

Midge Lucille Peake Ervin, age 70, 271 Dry Creek Road, Erwin passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Staley and Juanita Tomberlin Peake. Mrs. Ervin retired from teaching in the Unicoi County School System after thirty years of service. She was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church for many years. Midge had a passion for teaching, from her thirty years at Unicoi Elementary School to her Gleanor's Ladies Sunday School Class at Ninth Street. She loved to cook for her family and for people in the community. Midge often traveled to Myrtle Beach and Walt Disney World. She traveled all over the southeast to car shows with her husband, Charlie. Midge was a member of the Blue Ridge Pottery Club. She loved to volunteer with Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child every year. Midge also enjoyed antiquing, reading and showing her compassion for others by helping the community in various ways. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Curtis Cooper. Midge leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband of fifty-one years, Charles D. Ervin; two daughters: Jill Cooper of Unicoi, Julie Dykes and husband, Lance of Colonial Heights; two brothers: Gene Peake and wife, Ruby, Bill Peake and wife, Becky, all of Erwin; one sister, Fern Lewis and husband, Carroll of Amarillo, TX; three grandchildren: Deanna Brook Cooper of Knoxville, Madison and Dylan Dykes both of Kingsport; a very special sister-in-law, Mary Alice Hasty and husband, Jack; Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Erwin. Brother Rick Babin will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral. Music will be provided by Joey Lewis, Lori Babin and Becky Manfull. Serving as active pallbearers will be: David Keplinger, Bill Smith, Ronnie Ervin, Mike McIntosh, Ed Manfull and Mike Sorenson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Overbay, Fred Brown, Jack Hasty, Jack Lewis, Colin Mullins, Deacons of Ninth Street Baptist Church and members of Southeastern Autorama. A committal service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Friday in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Minister, Pallbearers, family and friends are asked to assemble by 10:30 A. M. Friday at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Midge to The Building and Grounds Fund at Ninth Street Baptist Church, 310 Ninth Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
