Roy Barnett Obituary

Roy E. Barnett, age 84, 1125 Carolina Avenue, Erwin passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the James H. Quillen V. A. Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a son of the late Samuel E. and Sarah Ann Coffie Barnett. Mr. Barnett retired from CSX Corporation, formerly Clinchfield Railroad where he was employed as a Hostler for forty-three years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Barnett was also a member of the Erwin Centennial Lodge #491 F&AM for sixty years and the Gold Wings Riders Association, Chapter C. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the 46th Engineering Utilities Detail during the Korean War and received a Korean War Service Medal. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Barnett; four sisters: Ruth Callahan, Beatrice Glover, Clara Lee Smith and Dorothy Barnett. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of fifty-three years, Bonnie Hill Barnett; one son, Samuel D. Barnett and wife, DeAnna of Johnson City; two daughters: Teresa Congdon and husband, Doug of Johnson City, Fanny Williams and husband, Lee of Unicoi; six grandchildren: Elizabeth Pleasant and husband, Jordan of Johnson City, Allen and Sydney Williams, both of Unicoi, Garrett, Andrew and Madison Barnett, all of Johnson City. A lot of very special nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family will receive friends Monday, May 23, 2016 from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service at Calvary Baptist Church. Reverend David Crutchfield will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral. Music will be provided by Gary Amos. Serving as active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Regular Fellows Sunday School Class and members of the GWRA, Chapter C. The committal service will be held at 10:00 A. M. on Tuesday in the Roselawn Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Kingsport VFW Post 4933. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home by 9:30 A. M. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
