Gaylord E. Lutz Obituary

Gaylord E. Lutz, 90, of Neshannock Township, passed away the evening of May 4, 2016. Born on April 24, 1926 in New Castle, he was a son of the late George “Lee” and Edna “Joyce” Seig Lutz. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 62 years, the former Christine Colaiacovo, whom he married on January 8, 1954.


Gaylord served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He then graduated from Westminster College in 1950 where he was the quarterback for the Titans. In 1988, Gaylord retired as the senior school psychologist for the Los Angeles School District where he had worked since 1955. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golfing. Gaylord also was known to love a good game of poker, whether playing in Las Vegas, at Mountaineer, or with his family at their weekly card games.


In addition to his wife, Gaylord is survived by his loving children, Gaylene Lutz and friend KC Collins of Los Angeles, CA, David Lutz of New Castle, and John Lutz and wife Coleen of Sun Valley, CA; his favorite twin grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth and Ryan Gaylord; sister-in-law, Marie Monico; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Benny and Cookie Colaiacovo and Harry and Joyce Colaiacovo.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernie Lutz, Bernard “Bun” Lutz, and Glenn Lutz.


The family will receive friends Friday, May 13, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A committal service will be conducted at 4:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Reverend Dennis Bupp.


Interment will take place in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
