Terese 'Ann' Huss

Terese ‘Ann’ Huss, 78, lifelong resident of Nortonville, KS, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at The House at Midland Care in Topeka, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, May 9, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nortonville, with Fr. Lazar Carasala, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Nortonville. A parish rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm, Sunday, May 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation to follow until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The House at Midland Care in Topeka, Down Syndrome Guild (DSG) of Greater Kansas City, or St. Joseph Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the O’Trimble Funeral Home, PO Box 267, Nortonville, KS 66060. www.beckerdyer.com Terese ‘Ann’ Bertels was born on August 25, 1937, just outside of Nortonville on the family farm. She was the youngest of ten children of Joseph Henry and Clara Theresa (Weishaar) Bertels. Ann was born 2 months early and weighed about 3 lbs. The doctor was called after her birth and he said to put her on the oven door to keep her warm. Ann attended St. Joseph’s Parish Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Community High School (ACCHS) in Effingham, KS. After high school, Ann went to work as a secretary at the former LFM Steel Foundry in Atchison and later worked for many years as the secretary for the priests of St. Joseph Parish in Nortonville. Ann was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, having served on the Altar Society, helping at the Lenten Fish Suppers, and making rosaries, many she sent to missionaries abroad. Ann enjoyed sewing, crocheting, collecting Norman Rockwell Porcelain Dolls, reading, playing bingo and making peanut brittle at Christmas. Ann was also well known for her making of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls. Ann loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Ann Bertels married Eugene Henry Huss on May 21, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nortonville. Eugene preceded Ann in death on July 28, 1977. Also preceding Ann are her parents; a daughter, Yvonne A. Hamilton; five brothers, Melvin, Paul, Donald, Robert, and Marvin Bertels; a sister, Kathleen Lutz. Survivors include two sons, Martin J. (Betsy W.) Huss, Jonesboro, AR and Terrance E. (Robin E.) Huss, Mayetta, KS; three sisters, Mary Frederick, Marjorie Wills, and Rita Frederick; nine grandchildren, Katherine H. Huss, Michaela A. Huss, Terrance E. ‘T.J.’ Huss, Jr., Daniel L. Huss, Joseph H. Huss, George R. Huss, Lindsey A. Koon, Jacob H. Koon, Eric M. Hamilton; four great-grandchildren, Braden L. Huss, Julian M. Huss, James C. Huss and Derek M. Huss.
