Mr. Ernest Homer Traxler, age 88, passed away on Monday May 2, 2016 at the MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 4, 2016 from 5:030PM until 8:00PM and again on Thursday May 5, 2016 from 10:30AM until 11:50AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 5, 2016 at 12:00PM at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Morton, MS. A Graveside service, with full military honors, will be held on Thursday May 5, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. Burial will follow. Officiating will be Rev. Zach Kilpatrick and Rev. Doyle Boyles. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Traxler had lived most of his life in Smith County, MS except for his time served in the military. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Polkville, MS. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, serving in the Korean Conflict and then after eighteen years he transferred to the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Vietnam and then returned to Fort Carson, Colorado where he retired. After retirement, he returned to his native Smith County, MS, where he enjoyed gardening and cooking. He was very active in his church and taught Sunday School for many years and also sang in the choir. Ernest was preceded in death by his son, Chris Traxler and his brother, David Traxler. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Traxler of Polkville, MS; one son, Jeff Traxler of Polkville, MS; two grandchildren, Eric Traxler (Morgan) and Stephen Traxler; one great grandchild, Austin Traxler; and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Eric Traxler, Stephen Traxler, David L. Traxler, Jr., Austin Traxler, Elliott F. Thomas, Jr., Alton Banes, James Johnson, and members of the U.S. Army. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Mr. Traxler’s Sunday School class. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or First Baptist Church of Polkville.
