Georgia Durkee Obituary

Georgia Ann (Norwood) Durkee passed away May 2, 2016. She was born August 13, 1926 in South Montville, ME to Irvin and Pearl (McLean) Norwood. Georgia was a life-long resident of North Union, living in the same home all of her life until she moved to Quarry Hill in Camden and recently to Knox Long Term Care Center in Rockland. Georgia worked as a bookkeeper at Cramer’s Garage in Union, Northeast Tire in Rockland, Fuller’s Equipment in Union, and Stetson’s Garage in Warren. She also assisted Lew Tabbott, CPA, at tax time. She was employed by the Towns of Union and Hope as the Selectman’s Secretary and Office Clerk from 1992 until her retirement in 1996. The 1996-97 annual Union Town Report was dedicated to her. Georgia was very active at the People’s United Methodist Church which she was a member since May, 1965. Some of her roles included Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Lay Speaker, Trustee, and Nominating Committee member. She was also a lifetime member of the Seven Tree Grange and the Order of the Eastern Star. Georgia was preceded in death by: her first husband Burgess Cramer; second husband Clifton Durkee; brothers, Everett, Lyle, Maurice and Roger; sister Marguerite and grandson, Brian Cramer. She is survived by: her son, Lyle Burgess Cramer and his wife Jan of Union; daughter Jean Louise Leavitt of Brunswick; son Keith Douglass Cramer of Union; grandchildren Bruce Cramer, Kathy Leavitt, Tracey Wing and husband Andy, Timothy Cramer and wife Sara and Jodi Shaw; great-grandchildren Regan Wing, Abbie Cramer, Jack Cramer, Austin, Evan, Faith and Lee Shaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Quarry Hill and the Knox Long Term Care Center for their loving care. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the People’s United Methodist Church in Union. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georgia’s name to the People’s United Methodist Church, 31 Depot St., P.O Box 105, Union, ME 04862. Hall’s of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements.
