Norma J. “Tommy” Yost, 86, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Adams Woodcrest. Tommy was born April 15, 1930 in Decatur, to the late B. Andrew and Alice (Kriegel) Appelman. On September 25, 1951, she married Samuel J. Yost; he preceded her in death on November 22, 1995. Tommy was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Women of St. Mary’s. She was also a 1948 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. Tommy was co-owner/operator of Prestress Services and also worked in the family business at West End owned by Andy and Bessie Appelman. She was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 43, the Women of the Moose, the Ladies of the Elks, and Business Woman of the Year. She is survived by 2 daughters, Pattiann (Jim) Shearer of Roanoke and Karla (Keith) Barger of Decatur; 2 sisters, Miriam Stephens of Colorado Springs, CO and Andrea (Tony) Allison of South Bend; companion, Jack Butler of Decatur; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her 2nd mother, Bessie (who helped raise her), daughter Nanette Genth, a son, Samuel G. Yost and a sister, Patricia Mansfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. by Father David Voors on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or Family Life Care.
