Catherine Collins passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016 at Brookside Manor in Hood River, Oregon. She was 94 years old. Catherine Perkins was born in Hood River, Oregon on March 17, 1922. She was the second of five daughters born to Pearl Clifford Perkins and Anna Vonado Perkins. She graduated from Hood River High School in 1940. She worked in an Optometrist’s office and as a teller at First National Bank of Oregon in Hood River, Oregon. In February 1948 Catherine married Charles “Bud” Collins at the home of her sister Charlotte Perry in Pine Grove, Oregon. They had three daughters, Susan, Leslie and Carol. Catherine and Bud worked for Standard Oil of California when Bud returned from World War II and then purchased the business in 1980. The business continues today as Carson Oil Company in the exact location on Dock Road. Catherine was a member of a Sewing Club and a Bridge Club and volunteered in the community. She led a Blue Bird Troop when the family lived in Heppner, Oregon. In Hood River, Catherine was on the Election Board for many years as well as active in PTA and the American Cancer Society. She participated in the annual American Legion Club fashion show, was a member of Valley Christian Church and a supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. An avid golfer, Catherine sank a hole in one at the Hood River Country Club and played often with friends. She enjoyed travel – taking trips to Hawaii, New England, New York & Washington, DC with friends and relatives. She went on Cruises to Alaska and through the Panama Canal. Throughout her life she loved camping at Lost Lake and trips to the Oregon Coast. Catherine enjoyed lifelong friendships with wonderful friends from childhood and high school. Catherine’s parents and sisters, Charlotte Perry, twins Arline Torretta and Irene Prockish and Doris Coates, and son-in-law Grant Stebner preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Stebner of Tigard, Leslie Hidle and son-in-law Gary of Hood River and Carol Pajala and son-in-law Kai of Battle Ground, Washington. Catherine also leaves her grandchildren Sara Stelter and her husband Dominic of Portland, Erik Hidle of Sydney Australia, Anna Hidle of Atlanta, Georgia and Kari Hidle of Ashland, Oregon. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of their Auntie Kate. A memorial Service for Catherine will be on Monday May 16, 2016 at 11:00AM at Hood River Valley Christian Church in Hood River, Oregon. A reception at the Church will follow the service. The family sincerely thanks the wonderful staff at Brookside Manor and Hospice of the Gorge for the wonderful care and support given to Catherine and her family.
