Mrs. Mary Sue Miller Joyce, age 71, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Thursday (April 21, 2016) at her home. Born October 30, 1944 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Mont Clark and Mary Elsie Hess Miller. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, she had lived her early years in Honaker, then Lebanon, before moving to Richlands. She had received her L.P.N. training from Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital, graduating 1964, working there for a year before going to Charlottesville, Virginia for her Operating Room training. She had been employed at Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital, Mattie Williams Hospital, and had cared privately for patients in their rooms. She was a loving mother, who quit her nursing career to stay home and raise, care, and nurture her family. She had a love for the beautiful outdoors, enjoying her surroundings and wildlife. She was a member of New Garden Primitive Baptist Church and loved spending time with her church family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Dye Perkins, four brothers, M.C. Miller, Morgan Miller, Calvin Miller, and Kyle Miller, and two half-sisters, Mae Omie Miller and Edith Hunter. Survivors include her husband of forty-nine years, Billy Clayton Joyce of the home; one son, Clayton Todd Joyce and wife, Barbara of Seaboard; three daughters, Beth Ann Roncone and husband, Christopher of Charlotte, North Carolina, Robin Dawn Nixon and husband, Elwood of Troutville, Virginia, and Amy Suzette Sparks and husband, Darrell of Salem, Virginia; six grandchildren, Anthony Joyce, Dominic Roncone, Dylan Roncone, Kendall Nixon, Logan Sparks, and Jhett Nixon; two great-grandchildren, Briana Joyce and Drake Joyce; four sisters, Sally Horton, Ann Hess, Ona Myers, and Shirley Slattery; two brothers, Jimmy Miller and Manley Miller; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the New Garden Primitive Baptist Church, Honaker, Virginia with Elder Junior Davis and Elder Aaron Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening after 6:00 PM at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
