Doyle Strayer Obituary

Doyle E. “Eugene” Strayer, 85, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, at the Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IN. He was born on April 24, 1930, to the late Rue and Rhea (Tickle) Strayer in Bluecreek Township, Adams County Indiana. On October 14, 1961, he married Mildred “Millie” Grote. Doyle was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a 50 year member of the Decatur Masonic Lodge 571 F&M, American Legion Post #43 and a lifetime member of the VFW. He retired from G.E. and was a farmer. He is survived by his wife Millie of Decatur; two daughters, Marilyn (Chris) Harvey, Decatur, IN and Sharon (Jeff) Lorenz, New Lenox, IL; six grandchildren, Lauren, Hannah and Lucas Harvey and Jessica, Carissa and Mark Lorenz. Doyle was preceded in death by two infant twin daughters, Kay and Fay and one brother Donald Strayer. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Haggard- Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior to the service at the church with Pastor Char Allen officiating. Burial will take place at the Tricker Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post #43. Memorials may be made to the Monroe United Methodist Church.
