Sidney Payne Obituary

Argyle Today the world is a much sadder and colder place. Sidney Lewis Payne, 89, passed into the arms of the angels at his home on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the first born of the late Lewis and Frances (Jenkins) Payne of the hamlet of Jenkinsville on February 8, 1927. Sid graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1945. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served a two year term in Fort Dix, South Carolina and Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a rifleman and radio operator. Before military service he met his first love Patricia Archard of Harrisena and they were married after his discharge. Patricia passed away suddenly in 1979. He was lucky enough to find love again and married Marion Winegard Bayard in 1986 and they enjoyed many happy years together. Sid worked a 30 year career as maintenance supervisor at NIBCO in South Glens Falls and thoroughly enjoyed his maintenance crew. He had many hobbies and interests. Sid loved to read, garden, raise livestock, hunt, fish, and breed and train his dogs. He was an excellent marksman and wood carver and carpenter, building two of his houses, along with a house boat that the family lived on during the summer. Sid was a tree farmer and operated his own sawmill and was also an excellent welder. Sid was a member of the Glenoga Rifle Club and the Hartford Fish and Game Club, and was on the board of the Argyle Free Library for many years. In addition to his parents and first wife, Sidney is predeceased by his son, Joel Douglas Payne in 1964, and two sisters, Shirley Beswick Mitchell and Geraldine Banta, sister in-law, Jean Jackson, brothers in-law, Robert Beswick, Edward Banta, and Malcom Archard. Left to cherish his memories are his second wife, Marion Payne of Queensbury, children, Christine Little (Byron) of Queensbury, Jeffrey Payne (Debbie) of South Glens Falls, John Payne (Paula Burke) of Argyle, and Lisa Tubbs (Michael Delsignore) of Glens Falls, grandchildren, Kate Abbott (Stephen LeBlanc), Erin Little (Daniel Day), Adam Payne (Katie), Rachel Tubbs and Ryan Tubbs, Jonathan Payne, Matthew Payne, and Joseph Payne, great-grandchildren, Rowan LeBlanc, Brianna and Kiren Payne, brothers in-law, Terry Archard of Granville, Douglas Archard of New Hampshire, and Gavin Archard of Canada, sisters in-law, Sandra Archard Smith of Argyle, and Mary LaPan of Lake George, step-children, Sue and Bob Whiting of Argyle, Bill and Joyce Bayard of Queensbury, Pat Bayard and Vinnie Jockimo of Argyle, and Maggie Bayard of Fort Edward, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 11am-1pm on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A memorial service will be conducted following calling hours at 1pm with Rev. Joseph Busch, pastor of Our Lady of Annunciation in Queensbury, and Rev.
