Frank George Bender, age 89, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was born on May 15, 1926 in Bridgeport to the late Joseph and Rose Bender. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired as Captain from the Bridgeport Fire Department where he served the city for over 30 years. An active member of the community, he was a member of the Elks. He is survived by his dedicated sons Mark Bender and his wife Holly of Gainesville, FL and F. Gregory Bender and his wife Libby of Morrisville, NC, daughter-in-law Catherine and his cherished grandchildren Mark, Kailey, Brandon and Hayley. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife Marion Bender. Calling hours are Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2016 in St Mary Church, 70 Gulf St. at 9am. Interment will follow in the Veterans Cemetery in Middletown at 11:30am will full Military Honors.
