Wilson – Funeral Services for Dean Hammond, 78 of Wilson are scheduled for 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow to Old Velma Cemetery in Velma. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Dean was born November 15, 1937 in Pruitt City, OK to the late Mr. Sam Henry Hammond and Mrs. Reese Beryl (McAfee) Hammond. He departed from this life on March 12, 2016 in Ardmore.

Dean was raised in Purnell, OK graduating in 1955. He moved to this area in 1973 working most of his life in the oilfield as a pumper. He loved going to the coffee shop, hunting old coins with his metal detector and playing dominoes with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Fern Hammond and brother Earl Hammond.

Dean is survived by his son Rod Hammond and his wife Carol of Tulsa, daughter Leisa Freeman of Ada, sister Shirley Mellor and her husband Jack of Abilene, TX, his loving companion Shirley Cryer of Wilson, grandchildren Rayce Hammond and his wife Sara, Randon Hammond, Keelan Hammond and his wife Ashlyn, Heath Thompson, Lee Freeman and his wife Taylor, Logan Freeman and Macy Freeman, and by 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step children Steve Smoot and wife Janice of Ardmore, Debbie Smith of Ardmore, Clyde Smoot of Healdton and Merry Taylor and husband Trent of Wilson, 6 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Bill Cunningham, Rayce Hammond, Randon Hammond, Keelan Hammond, Lee Freeman and Logan Freeman. Honorary bearers will be his special friend Don Rutledge, his coffee shop buddies and his step grandchildren.

A family visitation will be Monday 6-7 PM at the Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
