Irene B McCloskey

<p> Irene B. McCloskey, 91, of Snow Shoe, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on March 10, 1924, in McElhattan, she was the daughter of the late Edwin M. and Laura J. Showers Consor. On November 19, 1943, in Lock Haven, she married Claude A. “Spooky” McCloskey, who passed away on January 26, 1994. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November prior to his passing. </p><p> Irene was a 1942 graduate of Lock Haven High School. During WWII, she worked at Sylvania in Mill Hall. She was the best mother and homemaker God ever created. She was a member of the Clarence United Methodist Church. </p><p> Irene was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penn State Nittany Lions, and wrestling at Bald Eagle Area High School. She played woman’s softball until an injury ceased her playing at the age of 51. She was a faithful senior games participant and proudly displayed her awards. One of her hobbies was refunding/rebates and she also loved gardening and dancing.</p><p> Irene was a member of the Snow Shoe Senior Center, where she was crowned the Queen of exercise, life member of the Bellefonte YMCA, and was an honorary member of the Clarence Mounties. She had a seat right behind first plate and would advise the Umpire if the wrong call was made. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts when her boys were younger. She loved to visit homebound members of the community and family members. She was a very giving person.</p><p> Above all this, her family was her greatest pastime. She would cook family dinners every Sunday after church. She never knew who was coming nor how many, but you never ran out of food. You did not leave Irene’s table hungry. She was a very blessed person and thanked God daily for all her blessings. </p><p> Irene is survived by her children; Larry A. McCloskey (Nancy) of Clarence, Gloria J. Fye </p><p>(Gilbert) of Pine Glen, Sandy M. Watson (Doug) of Moshannon, Carol A. Fye (Cameron) of</p><p>Clarence, Karen J. Young (Dan) of Snow Shoe, David W. McCloskey (Vickie) of Carlisle. </p><p> Also surviving is Bob A. McCloskey of Coudersport, who she raised as her own son; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. </p><p> Along with her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a daughter; Cathy A. McCloskey, Carl D. McCloskey, who she raised as her own son, two brothers; Henry and Ray Conser, five sisters; Mildred Danley, Edna Robinson, Helen Phillips, Bertha Fritz, and Mary Fye. </p><p> Visitation will be on Monday, February 29, 2016 from 2-4 &amp; 6-8pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Burial will follow at Askey Cemetery in Snow Shoe Twp.</p><p> In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Clarence United Methodist Church, 751 Clarence Rd., Clarence, PA 16829.</p><p> The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers that assisted them in caring for their mother.
