Burton, Helen Fidelia (Turgeon) - Helen Fidelia Burton, age 92, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 13th, 2016 in Midland, ON after a brief illness. She leaves behind her children Harry and Wendy. Harry Burton (Christine Marin) of Salt Spring Island, BC, grandson Craig Burton (Meghan) with great grandchildren Jack and Emma of Whistler, BC; Wendy Burton (Gary Docherty) of Victoria Harbour, ON, granddaughter Kelly Ross (Ian) with great grandsons London and Harrison of Barrie, ON. Helen was born in Campbell's Bay, Quebec on September 7th 1923 . She was the eldest of 13 siblings, 3 of which died in infancy. Late Viola, late Melvin (late Thelma), late Marie (Ray Courchesne), Idena Hervieux of Bracebridge, ON, Henry of Toronto, ON, Russell of Toronto, ON, Alvin of Peterborough, ON, Peter(Karen) of Manitoulin Island, ON. and Dorien (Paul) of Port Hope, ON. At age 12, her parents Joseph and Anne Turgeon moved to Matachewan, ON where Joseph worked in the mines. Helen moved to Haileybury, ON at age of 15 where she became a housekeeper, then a telephone operator. She married the late Jackson David Burton from Haileybury,ON on Christmas Day, 1945. They moved to Cobalt,ON in 1946 and Jack built the family home on Ruby St in in 1948 where they raised their 2 children Harry and Wendy. Husband Jack passed away in 1982. Helen later got together with Harry Buckler of Cobalt,ON for 26 great years until he passed away in 2008. She worked many years as a seamstress sewing dresses, and at Tressiders Grocery Store. She sold her family home in Cobalt, ON 18 years ago and then moved into Island View Apartments in Haileybury, ON. In March 2013 she moved across the road to the Temiskaming Lodge for a few months and then transferred to The Villa in Midland, ON to be closer to Wendy and Kelly. She had a incredible life with some challenges but faced everything with such grace and bravery. She was strong willed and independent. Her words of encouragement to anyone facing a difficult time was was to "pull up your boots and keep on going". Helen was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbour and friend. Anyone who met her, enjoyed her friendly spirit and caring nature. As Helen would always say "I'm in great shape for the shape I'm in". She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her but LET US CELEBRATE A LIFE WELL-LIVED. Please read DESIDERATA, Helen's favorite poem, to capture her true nature. Cremation has taken place at Lakeview crematorium, Haileybury. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on June 11, 2016 from the Buffam Leveille funeral Home at 11:00am. Helen's family will receive friends beginning at 9:30am.
