Reinhard C. "Reiney" Selking, age 94, surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord and Savior at 4:40AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Woodcrest Nursing Home. He was born on June 29, 1921 in Decatur to the late Henry and Sene (Thieme) Selking He married Mariann “Annie” Brite on May, 6 1944. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864 and its 4th Degree Assembly 257. At the Church he also was a greeter and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and served on the parish council and was involved in many improvement projects. He was a charter member of the Wheels of Yesteryear Antique Tractor Club and served as Treasurer for many years. He also was a member of the Preble Volunteer Fire Department and served as President in 1982 and was Secretary and Treasurer for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Decatur Optimist Club and served as a past President. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA and a certified instructor for the 4-H shooting sports in Adams County for 25 years and a 4-H Leader for 25 years. He was a "jack of all trades" and could fix anything. He loved reading, trap and skeet shooting, enjoyed travelling and was a diehard Cubs Fan. His famous quote was "I'm gaining on it". He loved his family and enjoyed celebrating the events in everyone's life such as, Baptisms, birthdays, First Communions, Confirmations, graduations weddings and his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He and his wife were the original owners of Decatur Truck and Tractor, Inc. (now Selking International). He started working for the International Harvester farm equipment and motor truck dealership in Decatur in 1940. He was a member of the Indiana Implement and Motor Truck Association for many years. He was the 2nd International Harvester dealer in Indiana to qualify for the XL dealer award. He retired from Selking International but up until the last few years he enjoyed coming into the dealership almost every day. His wife still does some work for the dealerships and all four of his sons, Jerry, Jim, John and Joe along with a son-in-law Mark Okoniewski, four grandsons, Brock, Jordan, Anthony and Aaron, and a granddaughter Emily Ringger all work for the organization which currently has nine dealerships throughout Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Surviving are his wife, Mariann Selking of 71 years; four sons, Jerry (Wanda), Jim (Jane), John (Jane) and Joe (Ellen) all of Decatur; three daughters, Judy (Charles) Schiffli of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jeannie (Rick) Smith and Joann (Mark) Okoniewski both of Decatur, a brother, Albert (Elsie) Selking of Fort Wayne; 25 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren He was also preceded in his death two brothers, Gerhard and Ferd of Decatur, a sister Alma (Harold Jones) of West Winifield, New York and a daughter Janice Lynn. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30AM. K of C 4th Degree Honor Guard will post from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:20 AM on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father David Voors and burial will take place in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Building On Our Heritage or to St. Joseph Catholic School.
