J.C. Short, age 94, of Berea, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at Berea Health Care Center.

J.C. was born in Berea to the late Bright B. and Maggie Bowman Short. He retired from Berea College and was a WWII Army veteran.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Rosie Mae Short, one son Leslie Ray Short and one daughter Geraldine Lowder Short, two brothers Earl Short, Stanley Short and three sisters Emma Mae Carpenter, Grace Marcum, and Dorothy Fryer.

He is survived by his children Charles (Lois) Short, Ray Short, James (Peggy) Short, Wayne (Wanda) Short, Della Casteel, Keith (Carolyn) Short, and Kenneth (Sharon) Short. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1pm Monday, January 11, 2016 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Himes officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Damrell, Mitchell Damrell, Jimmy Short, Greg Short, Robert Short and Chad Short. Honorary bearers will be Mike Short, Michael Lowder, Glen Lowder, Darrell Short, and Scott Short.
