Russell G. Storrs Coventry, Connecticut Obituary

Russell G. Storrs

<p>Russell Gilbert Storrs, a near lifetime resident of Coventry, CT passed away peacefully on December 11, 2015, surrounded by his three loving sons, Daniel, David and Donald. Russell Storrs (“Dad,” “Grandpa,” “Great Grandpa”) was born on February 20, 1919 to the late Gilbert and Mary Chase Storrs. He and his two previously deceased brothers, Richard and Raymond lived at the white house with the large front porch at the intersection of Rte 31 and Rte 44A (currently the site of the Walgreens Drug Store). Many family gatherings were held there, as well as direct viewing of many Fourth of July, Memorial Day parades, and other town events. Russell served in the Army during World War II, spending nearly 4 years in the Pacific Corridor. He earned multiple Purple Hearts, and among other honors, a Bronze Star during his tour of service. Upon returning from the War, he married his childhood sweetheart and greatest love, Ottavia (Tavina) Storrs. They build a home on Rte 44A (1928 Boston Turnpike), and lived there for nearly 65 years. Russell’s greatest passion was always “Family.” He and his wife, Tavina loved nothing more than watching their sons grow, participate in sports, become respected adults, and marry. That same passion continued as they witnessed the birth and development of Grand Children and Great Grandchildren. He retired at age 61 after 44 years of employment at the former Phoenix Fire Insurance, and subsequently Travelers Insurance. He and Tavina enjoyed gardening and working on their yard, square dancing, and helping on the homes of their sons, and Grandchildren. They especially enjoyed traveling throughout the US, especially with the Travelers Retirees Club. They also visited England and Italy. Russell’s greatest loss was the passing of his beloved wife Tavina, in 2010. Other pre-deceased family members include Alba Pesce, Josephine Pesce Hicking, Michael Pesce, and Donald’s wife, Marie Storrs. He is survived by his 3 sons: Daniel and his wife Jane of Bridgewater, CT; David and his wife Pat of Middletown, CT; and Donald of Tolland, CT. There are 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren: Keith Storrs and his daughter, Corrina; Benjamin Storrs his wife Aryn and their daughter Ottavia and son Henry; Megan Carmichael and her husband, Jamie and their sons Ryan and Tyler; and Whitney Tropeano and her husband Marco and his sister-in-law, Elvira Pesce.
