Robert Grant Davis of Sloatsburg, NY died on November 28 after a short illness. He was 92. Born in Canonsburg, PA in 1923 to Harvey G. and Mary J. Davis, he graduated from Chartiers High School in 1943 and married his childhood sweetheart Eleanor M. Bright of Knox, PA in 1945. They were married for more than 70 years. In 1955, he moved to the area with his young family to seek employment and he worked as a mechanic first for Brake Shoe in Mahwah, NJ and then for many years for Avon in Suffern, NY. Bob was an avid fisherman, softball and horseshoe player, and bowler. After retiring, he worked as a woodcrafter and volunteered time teaching at Sloatsburg Elementary School with his wife Eleanor.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor Davis of Sloatsburg and his five children: Sandra L. Morris of Lewes, DE and her husband Dennis; Robert G. Davis of Pawleys Island, SC and his wife Susan; Andrew J. Davis of Middletown, NY and his partner Mitchel Geremino; Richard M. Davis of Sloatsburg and his wife Darlene; and David S. Davis of Waldwick, NJ and his wife Mary Ellen. He is survived by 14 great grandchildren and 10 grandchildren: Michael Antonelli, Robert Antonelli, James Antonelli, Kyle Post, Kaitlyn Davis, Robyn Davis, Randal Davis, Richard Davis, Hudson Davis and Elizabeth Davis. He was predeceased by his twin daughters Robyn and Ruth and grandson Jesse L. Davis.
Bob was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends. Funeral arrangements were made by Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern. A viewing will be held at Sloatsburg United Methodist Church at 93 Orange Turnpike from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 3 followed immediately by a celebration of life service for friends and family. Donations may be made to the Sloatsburg United Methodist Church.
