Marcella Rasnake Obituary
Marcella Perkins Rasnake, precious mother and friend, age 82, passed away Monday (November 23, 2015) in an Abingdon, Virginia facility. Born June 26, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Marshall and Mary Melvina Perkins. She had spent most of her adult life in Council, Virginia, moving to Abingdon, Virginia to live with her daughter one year ago, when her health started to decline. She was a member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church in Council, Virginia and a wonderful Christian lady, having served as Church Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. She loved everyone and devoted her life to taking care of her family; never complaining, always having a positive attitude no matter what the situation was. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her homemade fried apple pies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Rasnake, Jr. and several brothers and sisters. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Compton of Abingdon, Virginia and fiancé, Richard Phillips and Judy Rasnake of Prosperity, South Carolina; grandchildren at heart, Jason, Gracie and Zoey Worley.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Rita and Willis Rasnake for all their love, prayers, visits, food and providing transportation to church; to Marcella’s wonderful caregivers, Patsy, April and the staff of Commonwealth Assisted Living; sisters-at-heart, Delphia Stevens and Estelle Perkins; nieces, Janice, Carnell, Sue, Faye, Irene and Diane for their visits, calls and prayers; Dr. Jennifer Jonkers for all her loving care; and the daughters want to especially thank their mother for teaching them tolerance and respect.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday at 2 PM in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willis Rasnake officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
Richard Phillips, Joe Milhorn, Brady Harris, Sonny Perkins, David Bostic, Ronnie Johnson, Harlis Harris and Dax Bostic will serve as pallbearers.
Kirby Cole, Matthew Street and Jason Worley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
